Today’s real comic is being pushed till next week. Instead, this is a sketch I did of our two oldest girl rats late last year. This is Morgan and Meetu.
On February 5th, we had to say good-bye to our little Miss Morgan. Two years ago on February 14th, she came into our lives. Ash saved her from a pretty badly-run pet store and surprised me that day by placing her on my shoulder as a Valentine’s Day present. She was perfect. Ash had just introduced me to the movie Cutthroat Island, and we named our new baby Morgan, after the hero in the movie (Morgan the rat had a “scar” just like Morgan the pirate).
Last year, Morgan developed a small benign mammary tumor on her right arm. Because it was small, we were advised to just leave it be since it didn’t affect her movement and she was healthy despite it. After we moved to Texas, she started having respiratory issues and the vet put her on medication and we started crushing her food and soaking it so she was able to eat. This went on for months and, even when the tumor grew, she continued to move easily and appeared healthy despite it all. The problem with little ones like Morgan is that they hide any problems they have. Morgan was two years old, old age for a rat, so perhaps we should have expected it. But when Ash found her, it was still hard to deal with.
It’s been three days, and it’s still hard to deal with. Her sister Meetu, who we got the day after Morgan, has never been apart from her older sister. Thankfully, Meetu has two younger sisters to keep her company, but it’s very apparent that she misses Morgan. We all do. It’s going to be hard.
We love you Morgan and we miss you. We’ll see you again someday.
