Here are the oldest three, Zane, Akima, and are always-charming-and-well-behaved Merlin. Yeah, whatever. If he can cause trouble, there is no doubt Merlin will. We affectionately called him our Little $#*1, and we do love him. I just wish he wasn’t such a troublemaker sometimes. But that’s his charm right?

Right?

Ah well. At least Zane and Akima are around to provide some positive influence over him.

Spunky, even though he isn’t the oldest of our kids, is definitely the older brother type. He gets along with all of his siblings – he adores the rats, plays with the ferrets, and often times sleeps with at least one cat and another dog cuddled up to him. They all love their Spunky and he loves them. His personality is probably the best you could ever ask for in a dog. He’s sweet, mild-mannered, and gentle with everything and everyone. He’s currently in the works to be a therapy dog. I think he’ll be perfect.

When Snarf was younger, he liked to chew. A LOT. Sometimes it was empty pill bottles. Sometimes stuffed animals. And sometimes… well, you get the picture.

Thank goodness he has not done this in a long time. We made sure he grew out of this habit FAST.

In any case, The Family Menagerie is back and ready for action! Updates every Monday and every Friday if you’re reading I Love Rescue Animals, you’ll see a behind the scenes of the true story behind each comic. Fun times! We’re back!

True story. This actually happened on my lunch break from work. We went to pick up something or other after lunch and ended up walking out of this local pet store with five rats. These five rats were adoptable rats that the owner had deemed as being too old to adopt and threw them in a box to be snake food instead. The store worker was horrified because he had raised them himself but he couldn’t take them himself. So he ended up giving them to us.

In no real order, we’ve got three boys: Tum-tum, Toodles, and Twinby, and two girls: Athena and Artemis.

Hey all. I’ve been extremely busy lately due to my day job, my freelancing gigs, and volunteer work with animals, and because of that, The Family Menagerie has been put on the back burner for awhile. I’m hoping that by mid-April, I’ll have time to pick it up again. I’m still doing small illustrations that I need to start putting up, but the comic itself is going on vacation for awhile. No worries, this isn’t the last you’ve seen of it!

In Texas, you don’t get a lot of snow. In Austin, it’s pretty much unheard of. So about two weeks ago when we actually had a good inch on the ground, we let the dogs run wild in it. It was Snarf’s very first snow so he pretty much had the time of his life running around in the crazy white stuff falling from the sky.

Spunky on the other hand… well Spunky wasn’t that excited. But if you had lived in northern Wisconsin for as long as we have and seen the snow we have had to deal with, well, you’d understand.

Spunky just wasn’t impressed.

Snarf is currently enrolled in training classes and well, let’s just say, walking nicely hasn’t been the easiest for him. He’s incredibly hyper, always full of unstoppable energy, and loves to run. And really, I’m not the strongest. So him + me = not a very fun walk in the park.

He’s getting better.
